Daegu Suseong District Council Forms Special Committee for 800,000 Pyeong Former Military Base Development; Nam Jeongho Appointed Chair

On June 10, the Daegu Suseong District Council formed the "Special Committee on Regional Development Utilizing Former Military Base Sites" during the first plenary session of its 270th regular meeting.

Nam Jeongho was elected as chair, and Kim Junggun was elected as vice chair. The committee members include Baek Jieun, Kim Jaehyun, Choi Jintae, and Hwang Chimo, bringing the total number of committee members to six. The committee will be active until May 2026.

Through its resolution, the Special Committee on Regional Development Utilizing Former Military Base Sites urged for the prompt relocation of military bases, called for the development of the former sites as strategic hubs to open the next 100 years for Suseong District, and requested swift and substantive support from both the central government and local governments.

Chair Nam Jeongho emphasized, "With the relocation of the military bases now confirmed, we stand at a historic turning point that will accelerate urban development. For this opportunity to lead to real change, the rapid relocation of the military bases and the prompt commencement of development on the former sites must be pursued."

Chair Nam also expressed his aspirations, stating, "The newly formed special committee aims to play a leading role in the systematic and effective development of the former military base sites by comprehensively gathering opinions that reflect the expectations and future vision of local residents, ensuring the successful implementation of the development plans."

The former military base sites in the Daegu Suseong District area are reported to total more than 800,000 pyeong, including 380,000 pyeong for the Army 2nd Operational Command, 230,000 pyeong for the 5th Logistics Support Command, and 190,000 pyeong for the Air Defense Artillery School and the 1st Missile Defense Brigade.
