"Grow Well and Come Back"... Saewool Nuclear Power Releases Fish and Shellfish Raised with Nuclear Plant Warm Water into the Sea

On June 10, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Saewool Nuclear Power Headquarters held the "9th Saewool Headquarters Shellfish Release Event" at Daesong Port in Seosaeng-myeon, Ulju-gun, to commemorate the 30th Ocean Day. During the event, the headquarters released 30,000 juvenile olive flounder and 20,000 juvenile abalone that were raised using warm water from the nuclear power plant.

Approximately 400 people attended the release event, including Oh Si-hwan, head of the fisheries cooperative, An Cheol-jun, chief of the maritime police, other related agency officials, and members of the Ulju-gun fishing village community.


Since 2011, Saewool Nuclear Power Headquarters has contributed to the creation of fishery resources in the nearby sea and the increase of local residents' income by releasing more than 2 million fish and shellfish, including red sea bream, olive flounder, and abalone.


Seo Yuseop, head of Saewool Nuclear Power Headquarters, said, "I hope that the continued shellfish release project of Saewool Nuclear Power Headquarters will greatly help create abundant fishery resources together with the local community," and added, "We will continue to actively work to ensure a healthy marine ecosystem environment."


Saewool Nuclear Power Headquarters plans to continue implementing various activities that can provide practical support for the increase of local fishery resources and the income of local fishermen.
