On June 10, Jeonnam Province held a council meeting with related agencies to prepare for the opening of beaches this year, aiming to promote year-round tourism and ensure the pleasant and safe operation of beaches. During the meeting, the province reviewed this year's operational plans, measures to boost usage, and safety strategies.

The council was attended by related agencies, including the 12 cities and counties with beaches, the Fire Headquarters, Mokpo and Yeosu Regional Oceans and Fisheries Offices, and the West Sea Regional Coast Guard.

Based on the vision "Jeonnam Beaches! Advancing as Year-Round Tourist Destinations," Jeonnam Province has set a goal to attract 660,000 visitors this year, a 5% increase compared to last year.

The beaches will open at 54 locations for 51 days from July 5 to August 24. In the first week of July, beaches in Yeosu and Hampyeong will open, followed by Mokpo, Goheung, Boseong, Jangheung, and Wando Sinjimyeongsasilli in the second week; Haenam, Muan, Yeonggwang Songido, Jindo, and Shinan in the third week; and Yeonggwang Songido and Wando again in the fourth week, in sequential order.

This year, Jeonnam Province will invest 2.7 billion won to ensure pleasant and safe beach operations, renovating facilities such as showers and restrooms, installing shade structures, and creating walkways. The province will also secure around 300 safety personnel and more than 4,000 pieces of safety equipment, conduct environmental inspections to manage water quality and beaches, and promote the beaches through various online and offline media channels.

To promote year-round tourism linked to the beaches, Jeonnam Province will build a "Marine Complex Center" equipped with advanced marine leisure experience and educational facilities at Boseong Yulpo Beach by 2026. By 2028, a "hub-type marina" will be established as a marine leisure landmark near Ungcheon Beach. In addition, the Wando Marine Healing Center, which opened in 2023, will be further developed as a marine healing hub in connection with Yaksan Marine Healing Forest and Cheongsan Marine Healing Park.
