On June 10, Incheon Port Authority (IPA) held a completion ceremony for the Smart Joint Logistics Center at the Aam Logistics Complex 2 in Incheon Port.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and IPA invested 42.8 billion won to build the logistics center, aiming to reduce the cost burden for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) located in the complex and to support these companies in actively investing in and installing advanced logistics equipment.
The logistics center has a total floor area of 19,000 square meters and consists of three above-ground floors. It features smart technologies such as cargo storage using robots and artificial intelligence (AI)-based inventory management. Incheon Global Fulfillment Center Co., Ltd. (consortium), which was selected as the operator through a public bidding process, plans to open the center in the third quarter of this year after completing the necessary licensing procedures.
IPA expects that once the center begins full-scale operations, it will primarily handle cargo from small and medium-sized shippers and generate up to 12,000 TEU (1 TEU is equivalent to one 20-foot container) of annual cargo throughput. In addition, by introducing state-of-the-art and automated integrated logistics (fulfillment) and combined sea and air (Sea & Air) transportation, the center is also expected to contribute to the advancement of Incheon Port’s logistics system.
Lee Kyungkyu, President of IPA, stated, "With the completion of the Smart Logistics Center, Incheon Port has taken another step toward a future-oriented logistics environment. We expect this to have a positive impact on the regional economy and the port logistics industry, and we will continue to strengthen Incheon Port's competitiveness through ongoing innovation and investment."
