A multi-billion won embezzlement case has occurred at an agricultural cooperative in Sacheon, Gyeongnam, prompting a police investigation. In the midst of the probe, one of the employees who had been reported to authorities was found dead.

According to Sacheon Police Station and other sources on June 10, Gonmyeong Nonghyup in Sacheon filed a complaint on June 5, alleging that its employee, identified as A, and the head of a pesticide company, identified as B, embezzled approximately 733 million won.

Gonmyeong Nonghyup recently discovered irregularities in pesticide transaction records through a computerized inquiry and requested supporting documents and an explanation from the responsible employee, A. However, after losing contact with A, the employee was found dead in a nearby mountain on June 3.

According to the complaint, A is suspected of siphoning off approximately 730 million won over a three-year period, starting in May 2022, by receiving partial kickbacks after making payments to vendors. The cooperative has reportedly requested an audit from the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation. Police plan to investigate the exact amount of damages and question those involved.
