Ryu Jongok of Hwasun County Council Proposes Creating an Ecological Art Playground in Dongguri Park

Five-Minute Free Speech...
"Children's Right to Play Must Be Guaranteed"

Ryu Jongok, a member of the Hwasun County Council in Jeonnam, proposed during a "five-minute free speech" session at the plenary meeting held on June 10 that an ecological art playground should be established in the Dongguri Lake Park area.

Councilor Ryu stated, "Although we have been certified as a UNICEF Child-Friendly City, there is actually a lack of spaces where children can freely play," adding, "Many parents go to nearby cities with their children every weekend." She further emphasized, "The aging playgrounds fail to attract interest, and there is a need for creative spaces that blend nature and art."

She also mentioned the examples of the ecological playground in Jungoe Park, Gwangju, and the 'Dream Playground' in Seo-gu. Ryu noted, "Spaces that reflect children's imagination and opinions are becoming local landmarks," and suggested that "Hwasun can also benchmark these cases."

Additionally, she explained, "The lawn area between Dongguri Life Park and the County Art Museum can be developed into a space where play, art, and relaxation coexist," and pointed out that "64% of Hwasun's population lives within easy access to this area, making accessibility excellent."

Ryu expressed her hope that "it will become not just a simple facility, but a space that fosters creativity and social interaction, and a cultural space for everyone to enjoy together," and requested "active interest and support from both the county and the council."
