Listening to Feedback on the SME R&D Support Program
The Small and Medium Business Technology Information Promotion Agency (TIPA) announced on June 10 that President Kim Youngshin visited Twinny, a company specializing in autonomous robots.
Founded in 2015 and headquartered in Daejeon, Twinny is a global company specializing in autonomous robots, offering a variety of services with its autonomous robot "Narago" and target-following robot "Ttarago," among other autonomous robot technologies. Twinny has organized its product lineup according to usability, including order picking, factory automation, and delivery for daily logistics. The company has expanded its business to logistics centers, hospitals, and multi-purpose facilities, gaining recognition for its technological capabilities.
Twinny successfully developed an integrated autonomous driving software package and intelligent robot technology for daily logistics services through the Startup Growth Technology Development Project in 2018 and the Regional Specialized Industry Promotion Project in 2022, both organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and TIPA. Through research and development (R&D), Twinny addressed the issue of the domestic robot market's dependence on foreign technology, contributing to the enhancement of domestic robot technology. In 2022, Twinny received the Presidential Award for Outstanding SMEs from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
The Startup Growth Technology Development Project is a government initiative that supports technology development to promote the innovative growth of technology-based startups. The eligible recipients are small and medium-sized enterprises within seven years of establishment and with less than 2 billion KRW in annual sales.
President Kim Youngshin visited Twinny's headquarters to inspect the company's flagship autonomous robots and the status of domestic and international supply. She also listened to CEO Chun Youngseok's feedback on participating in the SME R&D support program during a meeting.
CEO Chun stated, "Through the SME R&D support program, we succeeded in advancing technologies such as intelligent robots and interactive AI-guided promotional autonomous robots. This has laid the foundation for expanding the use cases of autonomous robots and broadening our fields of entry."
President Kim Youngshin of TIPA said, "Witnessing Twinny's growth has made me realize the necessity of supporting technology development for startups. We will continue to do our utmost to support R&D so that SMEs can achieve innovative growth based on their technological capabilities."
