Hamyang County Warns: Beware of Scams Impersonating County Office Employees

Attempt Involving Fake Official Documents and Business Cards Confirmed

Hamyang County in South Gyeongsang Province has issued a warning to residents and local merchants after a recent attempt at a "no-show scam" in which an individual impersonated a county office employee, used fake official documents and forged business cards to place orders for goods, and then disappeared without receiving the items.

According to the county, the scam involved a person claiming to be a "Hamyang County Office employee" who called a hardware store to order materials, presented falsified documents and a business card, and then requested additional high-value items. In reality, the person never collected the goods and subsequently vanished.

Fortunately, the business in question became suspicious and contacted the county office to verify the facts. It was confirmed that the individual was not an employee of the county office, and as a result, no damage occurred.

A Hamyang County official stated, "For all official business conducted by the county office, please always confirm through the main phone number or the relevant department staff," adding, "If you receive any suspicious official documents or identification, contact the county office immediately to prevent potential damage."

County Governor Jin Byungyoung said, "This recent scam attempt, in which someone impersonated the county office, is a serious crime targeting both residents and local merchants. While it is fortunate that no actual damage was done, we will strengthen our efforts in publicity and prevention activities to ensure similar incidents do not occur in the future."

Hamyang County is urgently notifying all businesses in the area about this case and plans to continue raising awareness and conducting prevention campaigns through official social media channels and blogs.
