Dongkuk CM announced on June 9 that Park Sanghun, CEO of Dongkuk CM under Dongkuk Steel Group, was honored with the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit in recognition of his contributions to national industrial development at the '26th Iron Day and 50th Anniversary of the Association' commemorative event.

The commemorative ceremony was held on this day at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas Hotel in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

Since joining Dongkuk Steel Group in 1993, Park has worked across all areas of production and sales for about 32 years. He developed high value-added color steel sheets such as Luxteel and Apsteel, and contributed to expanding exports of 'Made in Korea' color steel sheets, which led to his selection as the award recipient in recognition of his efforts for the growth of the steel industry.

In particular, he was positively evaluated for recognizing the future value of color steel sheets?steel materials that were previously colored only by simple painting?and for developing them into superior products sought after overseas through continuous research and development.

After the split-off launch of Dongkuk Steel (now Dongkuk Holdings) in June 2023, Park, as CEO, secured additional bases in Germany, Australia, and the United States. He has also worked to respond to protectionist measures by obtaining environmental certification (EPD) and diversifying export destinations. He strengthened core competitiveness by acquiring Ajusteel, a peer company in the industry. Park plans to focus on redefining the 'DK Color Vision 2030' strategy to ensure sustainable growth amid the prolonged steel industry recession. His goal is to stabilize and create integration synergies following the acquisition of Ajusteel.

Upon receiving the award, Park stated, "I believe this honor is thanks to the executives and employees of Dongkuk CM who have worked together with one heart and mind for the development of the steel industry," and added, "We will do our best to promote Korean steel exports by developing high value-added steel products."

Meanwhile, four other employees of Dongkuk Steel Group were also recognized for their contributions on Iron Day. Yoo Jungmin, Senior Researcher of the Steelmaking Research Team at Dongkuk Steel's Pohang Plant, received the 'Steel Technology Award' from the Korea Iron and Steel Association. Kim Junhee, Head of the Logistics Team at Dongkuk Steel's Pohang Plant; Sung Junho, Head of the Heavy Plate Research Team at the Dangjin Plant; and Lee Jaehak, Deputy General Manager of the Steelmaking Team at the Incheon Plant, received commendations from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy as part of the government awards.
