Visit to the Ministry of Economy and Finance
Proposals Include Construction of Drone Sports Center
On June 9, Namwon City in North Jeolla Province visited the Ministry of Economy and Finance to make an all-out effort to secure the national budget for 2026.
According to the city, Vice Mayor Min Sunshik personally visited the Ministry of Economy and Finance to explain the urgency and necessity of key regional projects, and requested active support from the government.
This visit follows two previous visits by Mayor Choi Kyungsik of Namwon City to central government ministries last month, and demonstrates Namwon City's proactive and continuous efforts to secure national funding.
During the visit to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the city proposed the following projects: construction of an Advanced Drone Sports Activation Support Center (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, 19 billion KRW), establishment of an International Drone Racing Competition Operation System (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, 4.3 billion KRW), and construction of the Namwon Ceramic Exhibition Hall (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, 17 billion KRW).
Additionally, the city requested budget support for the following projects to secure future growth engines and address local issues: construction of the Namwon Modern Lacquered Woodcraft Center (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, 15.2 billion KRW), creation of the Namwon Youth Sports Complex (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, 49 billion KRW), and the Bio-Gas Utilization Loach Aquaculture Complex Energy Efficiency Project (Ministry of Environment, 1.5 billion KRW).
Vice Mayor Min Sunshik stated, "Currently, the budget formulation phase by the ministries has ended, and we are now at a critical stage as the budget review by the Ministry of Economy and Finance begins. Based on the results of the mayor's visits to the central ministries, all departments will work together to ensure that the budgets for key projects are reflected and to make every effort to secure national funding."
Meanwhile, next year's national budget was prepared by each ministry based on the projects requested by local governments and submitted to the Ministry of Economy and Finance by the end of last month. After review by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the government budget proposal is scheduled to be submitted to the National Assembly by September 3. The final decision will be made in December through the National Assembly's deliberation and resolution process.
