This exchange camp is being held over seven days and six nights from June 6 to June 12 in Seoul and Busan. Its goal is to strengthen international support for the Republic of Korea and to pass on the legacy of the UN veterans' connection to future generations, by facilitating exchanges between descendants of UN veterans and outstanding talents from UN member countries.
Now in its 16th year, the UN War Veterans Descendants Exchange Camp is hosting 150 university students from 13 countries, including over 50 Ivy League students from the United States. Participants come from the United States, Canada, T?rkiye, the Philippines, Thailand, the Netherlands, Colombia, Ethiopia, Sweden, India, Germany, Denmark, and the Republic of Korea.
Kang Jeongae, Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, stated, "This exchange camp is a project to carry forward the bond formed with the UN member countries through the valor and noble sacrifice of the heroes who fought in the Korean War to future generations." She added, "As this is the first camp to bring together outstanding university students from both Korea and abroad, we will actively expand exchange activities through veterans affairs."
In particular, from June 10, the fifth day of the camp, a two-night, three-day visit to Busan is scheduled.
At Grand Moment Youth Hostel, a variety of educational and experiential programs will be offered, including: a veterans affairs academic forum; a visit and lecture at the UN Peace Memorial Hall; a memorial ceremony and tribute at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Korea; a closing ceremony; team mission presentations; and a yacht tour.
Park Sooyoung, operator of Grand Moment Youth Hostel, commented, "As the only youth training facility located in the Busan UN Peace Culture District, it is very meaningful to co-organize this camp," and added, "We will continue to operate various programs to help understand and remember the history of the UN member countries and our nation."
Grand Moment Youth Hostel also plans to actively expand its programs aimed at enhancing global citizenship awareness among youth and young adults, taking this exchange camp as an opportunity.
