Park Sungho, Commissioner: "Sharing a Practical Economic Free Zone Model Bridging Policy and Industry"

The Busanjin-Hae Economic Free Zone Authority (Commissioner Park Sungho) announced on June 9 that a group of 23 people, including faculty and MBA students from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), visited the authority to discuss topics such as free trade and supply chain strategy.

This visit was organized as part of UTSA's ongoing global field education program. Participants had the opportunity to experience the practical policy operations and global logistics infrastructure of the Busanjin-Hae Economic Free Zone firsthand, deepening their understanding of the Korean economic free zone model.

The UTSA visit took place amid a recent trend of major American universities visiting the authority. Previously, on May 16, a group from Minnesota State University visited, followed by the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin on May 22.

UTSA is a prestigious public research university ranked in the top 4.7% of R1 research institutions in the United States, with global competitiveness in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and life sciences. In September, it is scheduled to merge with UT Health San Antonio, and after the merger, it is expected to become a large comprehensive university with approximately 40,000 students.

During the visit, the delegation attended a welcome address from Commissioner Park Sungho, followed by a policy briefing and a Q&A session on free trade, administrative flexibility, and global strategy. They then visited Pier 2 (PNC) at Busan New Port to observe the logistics industry firsthand and experience real-world applications of supply chain strategy.

Commissioner Park Sungho stated, "The Busanjin-Hae Economic Free Zone is a prime example of the organic integration of systems and industries. I hope this visit provides future global leaders with practical policy insights."

The authority is expanding exchanges with global universities and research institutions based on its practical policy operations and world-class logistics infrastructure. The series of visits by American universities demonstrates that the authority is emerging as a hub for international research and investment networks.
