Selected in the Tourism and MICE Sector... Overcoming a 3.7-to-1 Competition Rate
Education Office, School, Local Government, and Companies Collaborate to Nurture Local Talent

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seokjun), Busan Tourism High School (Principal Jeong Jeongbu), and Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Hyungjoon) have been finally selected for the Ministry of Education’s public contest, the "2025 Agreement-Type Specialized High School Fostering Project."

A total of 37 consortia from 15 regions participated in this contest. After document and in-person evaluations by a selection committee composed of industry and regional experts, 10 agreement-type specialized high schools from 10 regions were selected.

An agreement-type specialized high school is an educational model that fosters customized talent required for region-based industries through agreements among local governments, offices of education, companies, and specialized high schools. The purpose is to systematically nurture talent in special industrial fields needed by both the region and the nation.

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education has established a cooperative system with Busan Metropolitan City, companies, and local universities in line with the Ministry of Education’s "2025 Agreement-Type Specialized High School Fostering Plan." Through this selection, it has achieved the result of laying the foundation for nurturing local talent who will remain in the region.

This project involves a total of eight organizations centered around Busan Tourism High School: the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Tourism Organization, BEXCO, Busan Tourism Association, Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Tourism Venture Council, Busan Convention Industry Association, and Dongseo University.

These organizations plan to cooperate in operating educational programs and recruiting talent to foster professionals in the tourism and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Exhibitions) sectors in the Busan region.

The Ministry of Education will provide up to 4.5 billion KRW over five years to the selected agreement-type specialized high schools and will support them in growing as exemplary talent development models through systematic consulting and performance management.

Kim Seokjun, Superintendent of the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, "The agreement-type specialized high school fostering project will not only nurture talent needed for regional industries, but also serve as a cornerstone for enhancing the competitiveness of vocational high schools and cultivating talent who will contribute to regional and national development."
