According to Goseong County on June 9, the county has been promoting the construction of the animal protection center since 2022 in order to raise public awareness about stray animals and to establish a mature companion animal culture. The county announced that the construction has now been completed, with companion animal play facilities and auxiliary facilities in place, and that a completion ceremony is scheduled for the end of July.
The animal protection center is located on the premises of the Water and Sewerage Office and consists of two above-ground floors with a total floor area of 654.38 square meters.
The interior facilities include dog and cat shelters, a medical examination room, an operating room, an education room, a companion animal community space, and various other amenities.
In particular, the companion animal community space is planned to serve as an area where pet owners can exchange information, and the education room will be used to teach proper care methods and etiquette for companion animals.
The current temporary shelter, which was converted from a warehouse, has posed challenges in managing stray animals due to its aging condition and limited space. However, with the completion of the new animal protection center, more systematic management will become possible, which is expected to greatly contribute to the realization of animal welfare.
Governor Lee stated, "Through the construction of the animal protection center, we will spread a proper companion animal culture and do our utmost to strengthen animal welfare policies."
