Foreign Nationals May Apply at the City, County, or District Office with Jurisdiction over Their Home Country's Embassy
Applications for living support funds for the victims of the 10·29 Itaewon disaster will be accepted at the relevant city, county, or district offices starting June 9.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on June 8, those eligible for the payment are members of households that include victims or deceased individuals from the Itaewon disaster. If the parents, children, or siblings of a victim or deceased individual are not part of the household but are deemed to require living support, they may be included as household members following a resolution by the '10·29 Itaewon Disaster Victim Relief Review Committee (the Committee)'.
Additionally, the amount of living support funds will be determined based on the number of household members who are victims or deceased individuals as defined by the Itaewon Disaster Fact-Finding Act. For victims, the amount ranges from 730,500 won (for single-person households) to 2,775,100 won (for households with seven or more members). For deceased individuals, the amount ranges from 1,461,000 won (for single-person households) to 5,550,200 won (for households with seven or more members). The support amount will not be included in the recognized income for basic livelihood security recipients for one year from the date of payment.
Applications can be submitted by visiting the city, county, or district office with jurisdiction over the victim's registered address, or by mailing or faxing the application form. Foreign nationals without a registered address in Korea may apply at the city, county, or district office with jurisdiction over the location of their home country's embassy.
If there is an objection to the decision, an appeal form may be submitted to the city, county, or district office within 30 days of receiving the payment decision notification.
Chairperson Jwa Sejun of the Committee stated, "We hope that the living support funds will help victims and bereaved families affected by the Itaewon disaster to recover their daily lives."
