Gwangju Urban Corporation (President Kim Seungnam) announced on the 8th that it had signed a business agreement with Gwangsan District (District Mayor Park Byungkyu) at the Gwangsan District Office on the 5th to support the "Residential Infrastructure Support Project for Existing Homes." The aim of this agreement is to establish a new integrated residential welfare model that proactively responds to the aging of the local community and the increasing demand for care services.
The "Existing Homes Project" is centered on providing integrated support for housing infrastructure, as well as medical, nursing, and daily living assistance, so that elderly people or health-vulnerable groups in need of care can continue to live comfortably and stably in their familiar home environments.
Under the agreement, Gwangju Urban Corporation and Gwangsan District Office will carry out a pilot project focused on the "Usan Bit Yeoulchae" permanent rental complex. This complex is a high-density elderly residential area, with 68% of its residents aged 60 or older, making the establishment of a community-based care system an urgent need.
Gwangju Urban Corporation will utilize vacant units within the complex to provide residential spaces (care homes), remodel spaces for on-site staff (care home centers), and offer essential living infrastructure. In this facility, six professional care staff will regularly visit elderly residents, people with disabilities, and those with chronic illnesses to provide practical care services such as well-being checks and hospital transfer assistance.
Gwangsan District was selected for the Ministry of Health and Welfare's "Residential Infrastructure-Linked Care Service" pilot project and secured national funding, while the corporation will be responsible for implementing the residential infrastructure and advancing cooperation.
Kim Seungnam, President of Gwangju Urban Corporation, stated, "This agreement marks a turning point where public rental housing becomes not just a place to live, but a hub for community care," adding, "It will serve as the starting point for a new welfare model that enables residents to enjoy a dignified and stable later life."
