A YouTuber who introduces popular restaurants has issued an apology after posting content that disparaged the Jeonnam region, where President Lee Jaemyung's approval rating is high in the 21st presidential election.
According to the May 18 Memorial Foundation and other sources on June 7, Jabsikgongryong (real name: Wang Hyonsu), a YouTuber who introduces restaurants nationwide, stated in a post on his YouTube channel the previous day, "The post I uploaded contained expressions that disparaged a region and content that was politically biased. I sincerely apologize for causing discomfort to many people."
Along with his apology post, Jabsikgongryong also uploaded a photo showing a payment record of a 5 million won donation to the May 18 Memorial Foundation and reiterated his apology, saying, "I am well aware that making a donation does not erase my wrongdoing, and I will keep this in mind."
Jabsikgongryong, who wears a dinosaur costume and introduces restaurants across the country to his 170,000 subscribers, posted a photo on his social media account the previous day showing the presidential election results for a specific region in Jeonnam. In the image, Democratic Party candidate Lee Jaemyung's vote share was 89.04%, while People Power Party candidate Kim Moonsu's vote share was 7.26%.
Through the comments on this post, online users made disparaging remarks about the Jeonnam region, and Jabsikgongryong further fueled controversy by reposting a screenshot of a post that disparaged the Jeonnam region.
