On the afternoon of June 7, an accident occurred on the Sillim Line of the Seoul urban railway, where a motorized wheelchair fell onto the tracks, resulting in one person being injured.
Namseoul Light Rail Transit, the operator of the Sillim Line, announced at approximately 5:55 p.m. on the same day via a safety alert message that "the accident involving a fall at Saetgang Station on the Sillim Line urban railway has been resolved, and all train operations have resumed."
Earlier, at around 4:41 p.m., a man in his 60s with a disability, identified as A, who was using a motorized wheelchair, collided with the screen door and subsequently fell onto the tracks at the platform of Saetgang Station on the Sillim Line in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. It has been confirmed that there were no trains on the tracks at the time of the fall.
As a result of the accident, A was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Namseoul Light Rail Transit, which operates the Sillim Line, suspended all train operations on the line for about one hour.
A representative from Namseoul Light Rail Transit stated, "It is presumed that the accident occurred due to A's lack of driving proficiency," and added, "There was also a report that A was under the influence of alcohol at the time." Both the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Namseoul Light Rail Transit are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
