Changwon Special City Holds Marine Corps Memorial Ceremony for 70th Memorial Day Anniversary

Inheriting the Invincible Marine Spirit
and Conducting Underwater Cleanup Volunteer Work at Yongji Lake

Changwon Special City solemnly held a Marine Corps memorial ceremony in front of the Marine Corps Spirit Memorial Tower in Seongsan-gu to mark the 70th anniversary of Memorial Day. The event was attended by about 450 people, including members of the Changwon City Cheonjabong Marine Corps Association, volunteers, and citizens.

The ceremony, held on June 6, began with a welcoming address from the president of the Changwon City Cheonjabong Marine Corps Association, followed by a memorial speech, a security education session by Kang Moonho, a retired Marine Corps colonel, a moment of silence, and a floral tribute. Participants honored the spirits of the fallen patriots and national heroes who sacrificed for the country and reflected on the Marine Corps spirit.


After the memorial ceremony, members of the Marine Corps comrades association, the Gyeongnam Chaperon Volunteer Corps, the Gyeongnam Frontier Volunteer Corps, and the Marine Corps Women's Volunteer Corps moved to Yongji Lake to conduct an underwater cleanup volunteer activity.


The Marine Corps comrades donned suits and air tanks and entered the lake to collect various waste materials that cause water pollution, while the volunteers sorted the collected waste by type to contribute to environmental cleanup efforts.


Park Jongyun, president of the Changwon City Cheonjabong Marine Corps Association, stated, "The Marine Corps comrades association continues to carry out various volunteer activities for the nation and local community under the belief that 'Once a Marine, always a Marine.' We will continue to uphold the noble spirit of our senior Marines and actively contribute to regional development."
