People Power Party Warns of 'International Isolation' as President Lee's Call with Trump Is Delayed

Na Kyungwon and Ahn Cheolsoo Express Concerns Over "Korea Passing"

On June 6, the third day since President Lee Jaemyung's inauguration, the People Power Party continued to voice concerns and criticism over the lack of a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, raising issues such as "diplomatic and security risks" and "Korea passing."

On this day, lawmaker Na Kyungwon pointed out via social media, "Former President Moon Jaein spoke with the U.S. president on his inauguration day, former President Yoon Sukyeol did so just five hours after being elected, and former President Park Geunhye spoke the day after her election. However, three days have passed since President Lee's inauguration, and he has yet to even have a phone call with President Trump."

She went on to say, "There are growing concerns that the South Korea-U.S. alliance may be faltering," adding, "The Supreme Court's final guilty verdict sentencing Lee Hwayoung, former Gyeonggi Province Vice Governor for Peace, to seven years and eight months in prison for the illegal remittance to North Korea not only highlights President Lee's judicial risk but also clearly demonstrates that 'diplomatic and security risks' are a reality."

Lawmaker Ahn Cheolsoo also wrote on social media, "The presidential office claims the delay in the phone call is due to time differences, but this is a poor excuse that is hard for the public to accept," and expressed concern, saying, "It may be a serious sign that 'Korea passing' is beginning."

Ahn further stated, "I cannot help but once again express deep concern that under President Lee, the real Republic of Korea may be falling from the position of a 'main player' to an 'outcast' in the international community."

Han Donghoon, former party leader, commented on social media, "Given the precedent of previous presidents immediately speaking with the U.S. president after taking office, this case is highly unusual," and added, "The White House has even mentioned concerns about 'China's influence.' This seems to reflect doubts about the new administration's direction."
