Hollywood’s leading action star Tom Cruise has once again accomplished an astonishing feat at the age of 62, earning a place among Guinness World Record holders, according to an announcement by Guinness World Records on June 5 (local time).

During the filming of the recently released movie Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning (2025), Cruise set the record for “most jumps with a burning parachute.”

Cruise is renowned for performing all of his own stunts. Throughout the Mission Impossible series, he has scaled skyscrapers, ridden a motorcycle off a cliff, and even clung to a flying airplane, showcasing a wide range of high-risk stunts.

This time was no exception, as he personally performed the stunt himself. In particular, he executed a total of 16 jumps from a helicopter while wearing a parachute soaked in fuel and set on fire. For several of these jumps, he had to attach a Snorricam rig weighing 50 pounds (approximately 22.7 kg) to his body in order to capture thrilling close-up shots of the descent.

This stunt was filmed in the Drakensberg region of South Africa at an altitude of over 7,500 feet. During the fall, the burning parachute would be completely consumed within 2.5 to 3 seconds, requiring Cruise to quickly cut away the main parachute and deploy the reserve parachute.

Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, commented, “Tom Cruise doesn’t just play an action hero?he truly is one. His authenticity and willingness to push the limits are unmatched in Hollywood.”

The eighth installment in the Mission Impossible series, Final Reckoning, was released in theaters worldwide on May 23 and achieved the highest opening revenue in the franchise’s history. The previous film, Dead Reckoning (2023), received the highest audience ratings in the series, while its predecessor, Fallout (2018), grossed nearly $800 million worldwide, making it one of the most successful works of Cruise’s career.

To date, Tom Cruise has appeared in over 30 films. Since Jack Reacher in 2012, he has set another Guinness record by starring in 11 consecutive movies, each earning more than $100 million globally, up to Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning. The entire Mission Impossible franchise has grossed approximately $5 billion, establishing itself as one of the most successful film franchises in Hollywood history.
