On June 6, Goryeong County (Governor Namchul Lee) solemnly held a memorial ceremony at the Chungheon Tower in honor of the 70th Memorial Day, paying tribute to the patriotic martyrs and fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
Approximately 600 people, including the families of veterans, heads of institutions and organizations, and local residents, attended the event to honor the spirits of the fallen and to reflect on their spirit of sacrifice.
The ceremony began with an opening declaration and the national ritual, followed by a one-minute silent tribute at 10 a.m., in sync with the nationwide siren. The entire process, including a rifle salute, laying of flowers and incense, a commemorative address, and the singing of the "Memorial Day Song," was conducted in a solemn atmosphere.
In his commemorative address, Namchul Lee, the governor of Goryeong County, expressed his deep gratitude and respect to the patriotic martyrs and fallen heroes who gave their lives for the country. He also stated, "We will never forget their noble spirit and will continue to honor and support the bereaved families."
Goryeong County is also accelerating efforts to expand benefits for national merit recipients. Starting in January 2025, the county plans to increase the merit allowance in accordance with the revised "Goryeong County Ordinance on the Treatment of National Merit Recipients and Veterans."
