"Improved the Precision of LDAPS Precipitation Forecasts"
Professor Kyunghoe Kim from the Department of Ocean Engineering at Pukyong National University has received the '2025 Paper Award' from the Korean Society of Marine Environment and Safety.

Professor Kim was honored for his paper, "A Study on the Spatiotemporal Errors and Limitations of LDAPS Precipitation Forecast Data Used in Coastal Ocean Numerical Models," published in Volume 30, Issue 5 of the Journal of the Korean Society of Marine Environment and Safety.
This study scientifically analyzed the accuracy and limitations of precipitation forecast data provided by the Korea Meteorological Administration's Local Data Assimilation and Prediction System (LDAPS). In particular, it quantitatively evaluated cumulative precipitation and time delays by comparing the data with actual rain gauge observations, and it also specifically identified error characteristics by season and region.
Through the paper, Professor Kim emphasized that "correction of LDAPS data is necessary to improve the precision of coastal numerical models," and was highly regarded for also presenting future guidelines for its application.
The Korean Society of Marine Environment and Safety, established in 1994, is a leading academic organization in the marine field, with over 1,000 experts active in areas such as marine environment, maritime safety, and shipbuilding plants.
Professor Kim stated, "I hope to contribute to enhancing the reliability of marine prediction models through precise, field-based data analysis," and added, "I will continue to pursue practical research in the future."
