Clean Air, Clear Water, and Green Forests
On June 5, the city of Mungyeong, North Gyeongsang Province, held the '30th Environment Day Commemoration Ceremony' at Munhui Art Hall, reaffirming its commitment to environmental conservation together with citizens.

This event was organized to encourage overcoming environmental pollution and the climate change crisis through small everyday actions, such as reducing single-use products, recycling resources, and using public transportation.
Approximately 300 people attended the event, including Shin Hyunguk, mayor of Mungyeong; Lee Jeonggeol, chair of the Mungyeong City Council; Park Youngseo, member of the North Gyeongsang Provincial Council; as well as members of environmental organizations and local citizens.
The ceremony began with performances by Han Hyejeong, winner of the National Singing Contest Grand Prize, and Lee Jaehee, Mungyeong's honorary ambassador. It continued with the presentation of awards to those who contributed to environmental conservation, commemorative speeches, and an environmental performance.
This year, a total of 18 people received awards for their contributions to the environment: 14 civilians and 4 public officials who helped protect the local environment.
In conjunction with the ceremony, Mungyeong City exhibited 30 winning works from the 'Children's Love for Nature Environmental Essay Contest' and around 20 photographs of the Mungyeong Dolina Wetland, which has been designated as a Ramsar Wetland City, to raise citizens' awareness of the value of nature.
Shin Hyunguk, mayor of Mungyeong, stated, "To move toward a sustainable society, a new shift toward harmony between the environment and development is necessary," adding, "Through the construction of the Juhulsan cable car, which utilizes Mungyeong's pristine natural environment, we will provide many visitors with opportunities to experience the value of the environment."
Meanwhile, Environment Day was established to commemorate the opening day of the 'UN Conference on the Human Environment' held at the UN General Assembly in 1972. In Korea, it has been designated as an official commemorative day since 1996, with ceremonies held annually.
