'First Cabinet Meeting' President Lee Orders Rapid Relocation of Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan

President Lee Jaemyung instructed the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to expedite its relocation to Busan during a Cabinet meeting held on June 5, according to the presidential office. He also ordered a review of the need to procure additional helicopters for wildfire suppression.

On this day, spokesperson Kang Yujeong stated during a briefing at the Yongsan presidential office, "During the briefing on current issues by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport at the Cabinet meeting, President Lee instructed the rapid relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan." The meeting, which began at 10:00 a.m., was a session to review key issues by ministry and concluded after 1:00 p.m. As the meeting lasted longer than expected, Cabinet members continued their discussions over a single roll of gimbap for lunch.


Regarding the report from the Ministry of Science and ICT on the progress of the national artificial intelligence computing center and the current status of research and development (R&D), President Lee pointed out the need to move away from 'administrative convenience.' In addition, for issues related to agriculture and livestock, he ordered measures to address food price stability, and instructed the identification of public diplomacy opportunities for K-Food through consultations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


In the case of wildfire disasters, he emphasized the need for collaboration between the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Korea Forest Service in both prevention and response. Spokesperson Kang explained, "He also ordered a review of inter-ministerial cooperation between the National Fire Agency and the Korea Forest Service, as well as the need to procure additional helicopters for wildfire suppression. Regarding the Fair Trade Commission, he mentioned the need to increase personnel and labor inspectors, and instructed an assessment of the current situation and possible solutions."
