Gyeonggi Provincial Council Legislative Training Institute to Be Established in Yeoncheon County
Yeoncheon Emerges as a Central City for Legislative Education in Gyeonggi Province
Yeoncheon County in Gyeonggi Province has been officially selected as the final site for the construction of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council Legislative Training Institute. This decision lays the foundation for Yeoncheon County to emerge as a central city for local legislative education.
Kim Deokhyun, Yeoncheon County Governor, is conducting a briefing session on the proposed site for the Gyeonggi Provincial Council Legislative Training Institute. Provided by Yeoncheon County.
According to Yeoncheon County on June 5, the county made an all-out effort to attract the institute by taking unprecedented steps. For the first time among cities and counties, local residents voluntarily formed a countywide promotion committee and held a launch ceremony to support the bid.
This achievement is the result of the dedication of various leaders, including Kim Deokhyun, Governor of Yeoncheon County; Yoon Jongyoung, Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly member; Kim Mikyung, Chairperson of the Yeoncheon County Council; and Jeong Namhun, head of the countywide promotion committee, all of whom devoted themselves to the bid.
Kim Deokhyun, Governor of Yeoncheon County, who is both a lifelong resident and a public official with over 40 years of experience, worked to persuade the site selection committee by explaining the development potential and promise of the proposed location.
The countywide promotion committee actively raised awareness of the necessity and justification for attracting the institute through voluntary activities and dedicated participation, expanding public support among residents. Meanwhile, the county council provided unwavering policy and administrative support, and local civic organizations shaped public opinion in favor of the bid, resulting in a unified community effort.
In addition, Yeoncheon County’s swift and proactive approach combined synergistically with these efforts, producing a valuable achievement through collaboration among citizens, government, and political leaders.
A Yeoncheon County official stated, “Once the Legislative Training Institute officially opens in Godaesan, Sinseo-myeon, it will become a hub for education and training for 156 Gyeonggi Provincial Council members, 463 city and county council members, and approximately 1,390 staff and legislative professionals. We also expect secondary benefits such as revitalization of the local economy, expansion of infrastructure, and enhancement of the county’s image.”
Going forward, Yeoncheon County plans to accelerate the construction of the institute by forming a dedicated task force led by the Future Strategy Office and strengthening interdepartmental cooperation, focusing all administrative resources to ensure the institute is built quickly and operated stably.
Meanwhile, according to a research report conducted last year by the Gyeonggi Research Institute, the Gyeonggi Provincial Council Legislative Training Institute is being considered for opening in 2030, with a minimum site area of 36,145 square meters and a total floor area of 20,265 square meters. The project cost is estimated at approximately 89.7 billion won.
