Gijang County (Governor Jeong Jongbok) announced on June 5 that the first achiever of the children's reading project 'One Thousand Picture Books' has emerged at Junggwan Children's Library.

'One Thousand Picture Books' is a reading encouragement program for children aged five to second grade elementary school students residing in Gijang County. If participants read 1,000 picture books and complete a stamp book, they receive a certificate and a medal. The program is currently being operated at Junggwan Library, Junggwan Children's Library, and Naerisaera Library.

The first achiever is Junseung Kim, a second grader at Junggwan Elementary School, who participated in the challenge for about 10 months starting from July last year and completed reading a total of 1,000 books.

Kim said, "Through the One Thousand Picture Books challenge, I learned many new words. It was a fun and rewarding experience."

An official from Gijang County stated, "We hope that through this program, local children will become more familiar with books and experience a sense of accomplishment."
