Tripped on the Last Hurdle Before the Finish Line
But Won the Championship with Forward Rolls
At the state track and field championships held in Oregon, a high school student fell just before the finish line of the 100m hurdles but demonstrated remarkable presence of mind by performing two forward rolls without giving up, ultimately winning the championship and drawing widespread attention.
On June 4, CBS Sports reported that Brooklyn Anderson, a junior from Thurston High School, claimed the 5A state championship title with a time of 14.93 seconds in the girls' 100m hurdles final of the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) Midwestern League (comprising seven high schools), which took place in Eugene, Oregon, on May 31. Anderson received thunderous applause for her victory. There was a particular reason why Anderson was met with such enthusiastic cheers from the crowd. In the race footage, Anderson is seen falling after attempting the final hurdle, then crossing the finish line with gymnast-like reflexes by performing forward rolls?a moment that captivated the audience.

During the race, Anderson hit her knee on the last hurdle just before the finish line and fell. However, the moment she fell, she immediately performed two forward rolls and crossed the finish line. In a post-race interview with a local broadcaster, Anderson explained that her body simply did what it remembered when she performed the rolls. She said, "All I remember is that it felt like I was back in my days as a gymnast," adding, "I had no idea how far behind the other runners were, so I had no choice but to keep moving forward." She also said, "When I watched the footage later, I felt really proud and truly, truly happy," and added, "It was the first time I had ever been cheered on by such a large crowd so loudly."

Meanwhile, Anderson also competed in the 100m dash and the long jump, taking first place in the 100m (12.22 seconds) and second place in the long jump (5.57 meters).
