The Mokpo Coast Guard held a memorial ceremony on the 5th to honor the noble spirit of sacrifice of fallen maritime police officers and to pay tribute to the loyalty of the patriotic spirits on the occasion of the 70th Memorial Day.

The memorial ceremony took place at the bust of the late Inspector Park Kyungjo, located in Noeul Park at Mokpo North Port, with Chief Chae Sujun, department heads, and key officials in attendance.

Officers from the main station, local substations, and patrol vessels flew flags at half-mast to pay their respects to the patriotic martyrs and fallen police officers.

Chief Chae stated, "We held this memorial ceremony to honor the noble spirit of sacrifice of the deceased, who did not hesitate to risk his life for maritime sovereignty and public order," and added, "We will continue to do our utmost to protect the lives of the people and safeguard maritime sovereignty, carrying on this noble spirit."

Meanwhile, the late Inspector Park Kyungjo died in the line of duty in September 2008, when he was struck on the head by a shovel wielded by a resisting Chinese crew member while attempting to board an illegal Chinese fishing vessel from a high-speed boat in the waters off Gageodo, Sinan County, Jeollanam-do, and subsequently fell into the sea.
