The Gwangju Gwangsan District Council issued a statement congratulating President Lee Jaemyung on his election as the 21st President and pledging cooperation with the new administration.

According to the Gwangsan District Council on June 5, the council released a statement the previous day, saying, "We hope the launch of the new administration will serve as a turning point for national unity and balanced regional development," and added, "We will act as a bridge between the central government and local communities to realize a just transition that inherits the Gwangju spirit and to implement people-centered governance."

The council also expressed its intention to actively cooperate with the new administration's policy directions, including strengthening grassroots local autonomy, expanding fiscal independence for local governments, and focusing on industrial strategies centered on green transition and digital transformation.

Kim Myungsoo, the council chair, emphasized, "We will take the lead in opening an era where the creativity and capabilities of local governments become the driving force of national governance," and added, "Together with the residents, we will prepare for a new leap forward for both Korea and Gwangsan."
