First Cabinet Meeting with Ministers from the Previous Administration
Review of Key Issues by Ministry
Ordered Emergency Economic Task Force the Previous Day
Plans to Inspect National Safety System
On June 5, the second day of his term, President Lee Jaemyung held his first Cabinet meeting at the Yongsan presidential office, reviewing key issues for each ministry. President Lee particularly emphasized the importance of maintaining continuity in state affairs and establishing discipline among public officials to minimize any administrative vacuum resulting from the early presidential election.
In his opening remarks at the Cabinet meeting, President Lee stated, "It will take a considerable amount of time to fully establish the (new government's) system," and urged, "During your time in public office, please do your utmost in your respective roles." The previous day, as his first executive order after inauguration, President Lee had convened an "Emergency Economic Task Force (TF)" and reviewed specific measures to swiftly implement economic recovery policies. He added, "While we are reorganizing, our people are enduring hardship in difficult circumstances. I want to minimize that period as much as possible," and continued, "I would like each ministry to review their current issues one by one."
The meeting was attended by 19 Cabinet members, including Kim Beomseok, First Vice Minister of Economy and Finance; Lee Juho, Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs and Minister of Education; Yoo Sangim, Minister of Science and ICT; Cho Taeyeol, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Kim Youngho, Minister of Unification; Kim Seokwoo, Vice Minister of Justice; Kim Sunho, Vice Minister of National Defense; and Ko Kidong, Vice Minister of the Interior and Safety. Vice ministers from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of National Defense, and Ministry of the Interior and Safety attended in place of ministers, as those positions are currently vacant. Following the Cabinet meeting, President Lee also plans to hold a safety and security review meeting to inspect the national safety system.
