Improvement Planned for Two Senior Centers in Neulmok and Singil, Muju-eup
Muju County in North Jeolla Province announced on June 5 that it has been selected for the 'Public Building Green Remodeling Project' competition.
The county has secured a total project budget of approximately 180 million won, including national funding, and plans to improve two senior centers included in the project: Neulmok in Muju-eup and Singil in Seolcheon-myeon.
To this end, from April to June 7, the county visited these senior centers to inspect facilities such as insulation, windows, lighting, and heating and cooling systems. In addition, they gathered feedback from senior citizens to enhance user convenience.
The county plans to transform these facilities into 'low-carbon, eco-friendly spaces' that are unaffected by heat waves or cold snaps by reinforcing insulation and replacing windows with high-efficiency alternatives.
Kim Injin, head of the Elderly Facilities Team in the Social Welfare Division of the county, stated, "The Public Building Green Remodeling Project is a government-supported initiative aimed at increasing energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in aging public buildings that are more than 10 years old." Kim added, "Now that we have been selected, we will do our best to improve energy efficiency and make the facilities more comfortable and safe, while also working to ensure that more green remodeling senior centers are established in the region."
Meanwhile, since 2023, the county has been preparing for the competition by identifying senior centers with significant energy loss. Currently, there is one green remodeling senior center in Muju County.
