The Democratic Party will accept registrations for floor leader candidates at the Floor Leader Election Management Committee office from 9:00 a.m. on the 5th until 4:00 p.m. on the 6th.
The campaign period will run from the 6th, immediately after the candidate registration announcement, until the 11th.
After that, a vote by party members with voting rights, which accounts for 20% of the total, will be held on the 12th and 13th. On the 13th, a vote will be held among members of the National Assembly.
The new floor leader will succeed Park Chan Dae, who has been serving as both acting party leader and floor leader, and will serve a one-year term. At the beginning of the Lee Jae Myung administration, an official from the pro-Lee faction is seen as a strong candidate to bolster the government's momentum. The potential candidates include Seo Young Kyo, a four-term lawmaker, and Kim Byung Ki, Kim Sung Hwan, and Cho Seung Rae, each serving their third term (listed in alphabetical order).
Representative Seo appeared on SBS Radio's "Kim Tae Hyun's Political Show" on the morning of the 5th and stated, "I plan to register as a candidate for floor leader today." She added, "Because we need to diligently carry out the process of ending the rebellion, revive the economy as soon as possible, and pass various reform bills and measures to support the entire nation in the National Assembly, I have decided to run for floor leader."
