Active as a Member of the Fireballs Team Led by Garcia
Played with Scheffler and Thomas at This Year's Masters
Set to Compete in Next Week's US Open as the Amateur Champion
Jose Luis Bayester of Spain, who claimed the title at last year's US Amateur Golf Championship and is considered a promising talent, has made a sudden move to join LIV Golf.
On June 4 (local time), LIV Golf announced that Bayester has signed a multi-year contract with the league and will compete starting from the tournament in Virginia, USA, which begins on June 6. Bayester will play as a member of the Fireballs team, led by Sergio Garcia of Spain.
The Fireballs team, which includes Abraham Ancer of Mexico, David Puig, and Luis Masaveu Roncal of Spain, recruited Bayester to replace Roncal, who lost his full-time status. However, Roncal will remain on the team as a substitute for the time being, as Puig is unable to play due to a back injury.
Bayester, who is 21 years old this year, won the prestigious US Amateur Golf Championship last year and participated in the Masters this year. In the first round, he played alongside defending champion Scottie Scheffler and former world number one Justin Thomas, both from the United States, and caused controversy when he urinated in a creek on the 15th hole.
He has turned professional, but thanks to a rule change, he will also compete in the US Open as last year's US Amateur Golf Championship winner. Bayester is scheduled to graduate from Arizona State University in the United States next month.
