On June 7, the city of Ulsan will hold the "30th Environment Day Commemorative Event" at the outdoor performance stage of Taehwagang National Garden under the theme "Our Common Challenge to End Plastic Pollution, Action for All."
This commemorative event will feature a ceremony hosted by the city of Ulsan, the "17th Environment Hanmadang" organized by the Ulsan Sustainable Development Council, and the "26th Ulsan Love Environment Concert" organized by Ulsan Maeil Newspaper.
The commemorative ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m., with approximately 1,000 attendees, including Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom, City Council Chairperson Lee Seongryong, members of the National Assembly, city councilors, representatives of environmental organizations, and citizens. The program will include commendations for distinguished contributors, commemorative speeches, congratulatory remarks, and a themed performance.
During the commendations, certificates of recognition from the Mayor of Ulsan will be awarded to 13 citizens and environmental organization activists who have contributed to local environmental conservation.
The Environment Hanmadang will be held at the outdoor performance stage of Taehwagang National Garden from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Twenty-nine citizen and environmental organizations will offer a variety of hands-on experience programs through booths, including making natural soap, creating eco-friendly bags (ecobags), and observing aquatic insects in the Taehwagang River, all of which are designed for easy citizen participation.
The "Ulsan Love Environment Concert," which will take place at 7:00 p.m., will feature performances by singers Ha Dongjin, Shim Shin, Kim Wonjun, Kim Hyunjung, and Byun Jinseop.
A city official stated, "We hope that Environment Day will serve as an opportunity for everyone to expand practical actions in daily life, such as reducing plastic use."
"World Environment Day" has been observed on June 5 since it was designated as a commemorative day by the United Nations in 1972. South Korea has also designated this day as a legal commemorative day since 1996 and has held an annual Environment Day ceremony ever since.
