Ahn Cheolsoo Criticizes President Lee Jaemyung: "After Calling for Unity, Why Is His First Step the Immunity and Trial Suspension Laws?"

"Lee's First Actions Focus on Personal Protection, Not Livelihood or Unity"
"We Will Reflect and Reform the Party Until Our Wounds Are Healed"

Ahn Cheolsoo Criticizes President Lee Jaemyung: "After Calling for Unity, Why Is His First Step the Immunity and Trial Suspension Laws?" Ahn Cheolsoo, member of the People Power Party

Ahn Cheolsoo, a member of the People Power Party, raised his voice in criticism against President Lee Jaemyung. He pointed out that, although he thought the President had expressed a will for unity in his inaugural address, his first actions at the National Assembly plenary session were aimed at passing his own immunity law and trial suspension law.

On June 5, Ahn Cheolsoo stated on his Facebook page, "Yesterday, the Lee Jaemyung administration was launched. I humbly accept the will of the people as shown through the vote." He also conveyed his intention to follow the people's mandate to become a true 'People Power Party' that serves only the people, and to pursue reform and innovation until the party regains trust and earns the people's expectations and support once again.

Ahn said, "President Lee Jaemyung stated in his inaugural address that he would be 'a president for all, embracing and serving every citizen.' I take this as a promise to prioritize people's livelihoods and national unity." However, he continued, "Yet, as his first step, he is attempting to pass the Lee Jaemyung immunity law (removal of the false information publication offense from the Public Official Election Act), the trial suspension law, and the Supreme Court justice expansion law. Should the first achievement of the administration and the ruling party be to shield the President personally, rather than focusing on people's livelihoods or unity?" He emphasized, "This is neither politics for the people nor policies for the country," and added, "I hope President Lee Jaemyung will firmly reject such bills, proving that his inaugural address was sincere."

Ahn also said, "I ask the people as well. The opposition party has many shortcomings and much to correct. Please criticize us, point out our faults, and reprimand us. We will reflect on ourselves and improve the party until our wounds are healed." He added, "Please lend your strength so that we can block any inappropriate policies that the Lee Jaemyung administration may introduce."
