Nongshim Begins Production of 'Sumi Chip' with Fresh Seasonal Sumi Potatoes

Production of Sumi Chip Begins on June 19
New Package Design Unveiled

On June 5, Nongshim announced that it will begin producing Sumi Chip using freshly harvested Korean Sumi potatoes starting from June 19, in line with the early summer potato harvest season.


Sumi Chip is a snack made exclusively with Korean Sumi potatoes throughout the year. Nongshim purchases Sumi potatoes annually from regions including Chungnam, Gyeongbuk, and Jeonbuk.


Sumi potatoes contain more sugar than regular processing potatoes, resulting in superior taste and aroma, but they are more difficult to process. Since 2010, Nongshim has operated the 'Sumi Chip' brand by introducing potato storage facilities and vacuum low-temperature processing equipment optimized for Sumi potatoes.

Coinciding with the first production of Sumi Chip using this year's new potatoes, Nongshim will also introduce new packaging. The product name, previously written in Chinese characters (秀美칩), will now appear in Hangul, and the design will prominently highlight key features such as a 25% reduction in fat content (compared to the company's standard potato chips) and the use of Korean Sumi potatoes.


A Nongshim representative stated, "Sumi Chip is a product that not only lets consumers enjoy the rich flavor unique to Sumi potatoes but also contributes to revitalizing local farms. With the package renewal and promotional events timed with the new potato harvest, we will strive to make Sumi Chip an even more beloved brand among consumers."
