On the afternoon of May 11, control officer Lee Jiyeon spotted a homeless man displaying threatening behavior toward a woman near Hyochang Park Station via closed-circuit television (CCTV). She immediately reported the incident to 112 and relayed the real-time situation to the police. The police, who were dispatched to the scene, arrested the man, who was confirmed to be a wanted person.
This case is the result of the control officer's focused monitoring and the police's swift response working in close coordination, which helped prevent the escalation of a dangerous situation and significantly contributed to averting secondary harm.
Last year, the Yongsan-gu CCTV Integrated Control Center also contributed to the apprehension of 11 offenders caught in the act through real-time monitoring, including violations of laws on the safety management of firearms, knives, and explosives, as well as assault, theft, and drunk driving cases. The center operates with 16 control officers working in four teams on two shifts, providing 24-hour monitoring every day of the year, and oversees more than 3,600 CCTV cameras throughout Yongsan-gu.
Park Heeyoung, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, stated, "We will continue to strengthen our 24-hour real-time monitoring system to ensure the safety of our residents and will do our utmost to prevent crime through close cooperation with the police."
