Local Volunteer Groups and Young Entrepreneurs
Support Wildfire Recovery Efforts Through Voluntary Participation
In Uiseong County, North Gyeongsang Province, the local community continues to show warmth and solidarity to help those affected by the wildfire.
According to Uiseong County, after the large-scale wildfire that broke out on March 22 led to the area being designated as a special disaster zone, local volunteer organizations and youth groups have voluntarily raised and delivered donations to support the victims.
On May 28, Somunhoe, a local volunteer group led by Chairman Lee Jongguk, visited Uiseong County Office and donated 4 million won to assist residents affected by the wildfire.
Somunhoe, established in 1968 as a local grassroots organization, has consistently engaged in social contribution activities such as donating rice and coal briquettes, improving living conditions for vulnerable households, and running campaigns to raise national flags.
On the same day, the Uiseong Youth Facility Operation Council, a group of young entrepreneurs from the region led by Jang Myeongseok, also delivered a donation of 5 million won.
The council was founded with the aim of youth-led regional innovation, and its members include Jang Myeongseok, CEO of Made in People; Kwon Gihyo, CEO of Social Cooperative Mentory; Choi Hyangjin, CEO of Uiseong Youth Lab; and Min Jaehee, CEO of Cheong Saegwon Cooperative.
Beyond simply delivering donations, they also attracted attention by providing practical support, such as serving beverages to firefighters and volunteers at the wildfire site and temporarily opening youth facility spaces to victims displaced by the disaster.
Kim Jusu, Governor of Uiseong County, said, "I sincerely thank Somunhoe and the Youth Operation Council for taking the initiative to share in the community's pain," emphasizing, "In particular, the voluntary solidarity and sharing among local youth is a source of hope and great strength for our society."
He added, "The county will also do its utmost to provide various recovery support so that the victims can return to their daily lives as soon as possible, and will continue to support youth activities through policy measures."
Meanwhile, the total donation of 9 million won collected this time will be used entirely to support the livelihood and recovery of residents affected by the wildfire.
