On June 4, Korea Airports Corporation announced that it held a ceremony at Gimhae International Airport to celebrate the launch of a new Gimhae-Tashkent route in partnership with Kanot Shakh Airways, a major airline from Uzbekistan.
The event was attended by six organizations: the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Korea, Busan Regional Office of Aviation, Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Tourism Association, Global City Tourism Promotion Organization, and Air Korea.
The corporation stated that with the establishment of this new route, the air network of regional airports has expanded beyond Northeast and Southeast Asia to Central Asia. It expects that the convenience of travel for tourists, business travelers, foreign workers, and international students in the Busan and Gyeongnam regions will improve, and that this will also contribute to revitalizing the local economy.
The Gimhae-Tashkent route is the longest international route operating from Gimhae Airport, covering a distance of 5,165 km, and is served by Airbus A321 Neo aircraft.
This month, the route will operate once a week (on Sundays), departing Uzbekistan at 12:50 a.m. (local time) and arriving at Gimhae Airport at 11:30 a.m. The return flight departs Gimhae Airport at 1:40 p.m. and arrives in Uzbekistan at 6:00 p.m. The flight time is approximately 7 to 8 hours. Starting next month, the route will operate twice a week (on Wednesdays and Sundays).
Heo Juhee, Head of the Glocal Business Division at Korea Airports Corporation, stated, "The launch of this new Tashkent route will be an important turning point in expanding the reach of Gimhae Airport," adding, "We will continue to identify strategic routes to further activate regional airports and enhance international competitiveness."
