Exploring Directions for Webtoon Industry Research

On June 4, the Chungnam Content Agency announced that it will host the '2025 Chungnam Global Webtoon Research Conference (C-WebCon)' at Splas Resom in Yesan County, Chungnam, for two days starting from the 12th.
Co-hosted by the agency and the Korea Cartoon Webtoon Society, this conference is an international academic event that will discuss leading the future webtoon industry through the establishment of the only K-Webtoon Research Center in Korea.
The event will bring together a total of around 160 participants, including 10 associations and organizations such as the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korea Cartoon Webtoon Society, and the Korea Cartoon Webtoon Association Federation, as well as overseas experts from countries such as Japan and Malaysia, and graduate students from 20 related departments nationwide.
The venue will also feature a Korean cartoon research history exhibition, a webtoon industry instructor job fair, a special lecture on thesis writing, and networking opportunities for participants.
Kim Beomsoo, Director of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Chungnam, stated, "K-Webtoon is no longer just a content for domestic consumption, but is emerging as a global strategic content industry," adding, "We expect this conference to serve as a cornerstone for the 'Chungnam Webtoon Research Center,' which will lead the global webtoon industry."
Kim Gokmi, Director of the agency, said, "The agency has reviewed the importance of webtoon research, including launching the Chungnam Global Webtoon Research Center Task Force," and added, "We plan to foster a differentiated Chungnam webtoon industry by establishing a global research institution that will lead webtoon creation technology, research, and archiving."
