Muju County to Operate "Korean Medicine Health Class" Through October

Basic Health Checkups, Body Composition Analysis, and Korean Medicine Prescriptions

Muju County in North Jeolla Province announced on June 4 that it will operate the "4060 Korean Medicine Health Class" for local middle-aged and older adults through October.

Since February, the county has been operating the 4060 Korean Medicine Health Class, rotating through six towns and townships, with the aim of promoting both physical and mental health among local residents. The program is based on Korean medicine treatments, which are favored by the community.

So far, the program has been held at the Seolcheon and Bunam-myeon Administrative Welfare Centers, attracting participation from more than 50 residents and receiving a positive response. It is also scheduled to take place at the Mupung-myeon Eoullim Center, where participants can receive basic health checkups such as blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol tests, as well as body composition analysis including body mass index, muscle strength index, and body water content. In addition, Korean medicine services such as acupuncture and herbal prescriptions tailored to individual symptoms will be provided.

The mobile smoking cessation clinic supports residents with smoking cessation counseling, registration, and prescriptions for smoking cessation aids. Education on infectious disease prevention, such as handwashing, and oral health checkups are also offered. Furthermore, participants receive personalized exercise guidance, nutrition counseling, and dietary information according to their health status, and mental health screenings are conducted. Muju County Public Health Center provides depression screening and stress tests, followed by education on depression prevention and stress management according to the results.

Lee Seungha, Head of Health Administration at Muju County Public Health Center, stated, "We expect this health class, which combines traditional Korean medicine and modern health management methods, to play an important role in improving the health and quality of life of middle-aged and older adults." He added, "We hope this will serve as an opportunity for residents to take care of their own health and, in turn, contribute to the health of the community." He continued, "We will do our utmost to ensure that residents receive comprehensive health management services and can maintain a healthy life."
