On June 4, Guro District in Seoul announced that the Guro District Office women's badminton team had been selected for the public sector of the "2025 Workplace Sports Team Establishment Support Project" organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. As a result, the team will receive a total of 255 million won in national funding over the next three years.

Guro District is the only district among Seoul's autonomous districts to operate a women's professional badminton team, making this selection even more significant. The Workplace Sports Team Establishment Support Project is a program in which the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism provides financial support for the establishment and stable operation of workplace sports teams by sports organizations or local governments.

The Guro District Office women's badminton team was founded in November 2024 and met the requirements for the application. The team was selected after receiving balanced evaluations in areas such as infrastructure development, securing of budget, human rights-friendly management, and contributions to the local community. Accordingly, the district will receive 85 million won in national funding each year for three years.

The district plans to use this funding to establish a stable operational foundation for the team, including overseas training camps and the purchase of training equipment. As the team is still in its early stages, the focus will be on early stabilization and skill improvement to enhance competitiveness.

The Guro District Office badminton team is scheduled to participate in the "2025 National Business Badminton Championships" later this month. The team also plans to expand communication with residents through participation in various national competitions, local talent donation activities, and the operation of sports programs.

Jang Inhong, head of the Guro District Office, stated, "We will spare no effort to support the athletes so they can focus on training in a stable environment," and added, "I hope all residents will show their interest and support."
