Interest in Convenience Store Instant Chicken Rises Amid Chickenflation
First Collaboration with Specialty Brand, Launch of Chicken for Single-Person Households
GS25 announced on June 4 that it will launch four new ultra-value menu items for single-person households in collaboration with the 40-year-old chicken franchise "Mexican Chicken," starting June 5.
This new Mexican Chicken series marks the first collaboration between GS25's own instant chicken brand "Chicken25" and a professional franchise. As "chickenflation" continues, with delivery chicken prices nearing 30,000 won, customer interest in value-for-money convenience store chicken has been rising. In response, GS25 has introduced the Mexican Chicken series through this partnership, aiming to offer both competitive pricing and high-quality taste.
The new menu includes four items: Chicken25 Mexican Yangnyeom Boneless, Chicken25 Mexican Honey Butter Boneless, Chicken25 Mexican Crispy Boneless, and Chicken25 Mexican Drumstick. The three boneless chicken items are priced at 3,900 won each, while the drumstick is priced at 2,900 won.
GS25 expects that by incorporating the unique seasoning expertise of the 40-year-old "Mexican Chicken" into Chicken25, it will evoke nostalgia for older generations and offer freshness to younger customers. To ensure single-person households can enjoy them without burden, the three boneless chicken items are each offered in 200g portions.
Chicken25 Mexican Yangnyeom Boneless is characterized by its sweet yet pungent garlic flavor. Chicken25 Mexican Honey Butter Boneless features an addictive sweet and savory taste with the addition of butter and honey. Chicken25 Mexican Crispy Boneless stands out as a crispy chicken with a visible "curl" in the batter?a texture rarely found in instant convenience store chicken.
GS25 has also prepared bold promotions to enhance customer benefits. Throughout June, customers can purchase any of the four Mexican series items at a 1,000 won instant discount every Wednesday, allowing them to buy a serving of boneless chicken for 2,900 won. This is the lowest price among instant convenience store chicken products with the same portion size. Additionally, with the purchase of any of the four Mexican series items, customers will receive a choice of one Mexican Chicken signature sauce (either Mexican 1985 Sauce or Mexican Spicy Sauce) and a Chicken25-exclusive Pepsi Cola.
Seo Hankyu, MD of the Counter FF Team at GS Retail, said, "Interest in convenience store chicken continues to rise amid ongoing chickenflation, so we aimed to differentiate ourselves in taste, quality, and price by collaborating with a specialty brand. Being able to enjoy Mexican Chicken in a convenient portion size for just over 3,000 won at your neighborhood convenience store will be a significant benefit for customers."
