Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Job Foundation will begin accepting applications for the 'Platform Worker Industrial Accident Insurance Premium Support' project starting June 4. This initiative aims to reduce the insurance premium burden on platform workers and address safety blind spots.

'Platform workers' are individuals who find and perform work through online platforms. They are active in a wide range of fields, including delivery, transportation, domestic work, and freight transport.

With technological advancements and changes in industrial structures, the types of platform work have diversified, increasing the need for legal and institutional support for these workers. In particular, while regular employees have their industrial accident insurance premiums fully covered by their employers, platform workers face structural inequality as they are required to pay half of the premiums themselves. To address this issue, Gyeonggi Province has established a support program that reimburses a portion of the insurance premiums.

This year, the support targets remain the same as last year: delivery workers, substitute drivers, and freight truck owners. Applicants can receive support for 80% of the industrial accident insurance premiums they have paid, up to a maximum of 14,713 KRW per month, for a period of nine months (from October 2024 to June 2025). The total number of support cases is limited to 1,800, and if applications exceed the budget, priority will be given to low-income individuals and new applicants.

Applications can be submitted online from June 4 to July 18 through the Gyeonggi Job Foundation’s integrated application system, Jobaba Apply.

Required documents include a resident registration certificate (or abstract) and a copy of the applicant’s bank account. Substitute drivers must also submit a worker premium statement issued by the Korea Workers’ Compensation and Welfare Service, while freight truck owners must additionally provide a vehicle registration certificate and a business registration certificate along with the worker premium statement.
