Kang Gijeong: "No. 1 Voter Turnout Nationwide... Proud of Gwangju Citizens"

"Striving to Include Key Issues as National Policy Tasks"
"Focusing on Regional Development, Including the AI Phase 2 Project"

Kang Gijeong: "No. 1 Voter Turnout Nationwide... Proud of Gwangju Citizens" At around 8 p.m. on the 3rd, at the first-floor Citizen Hall of Gwangju City Hall, Mayor Kang Gijeong of Gwangju cheered and applauded as he watched the exit polls of the presidential election by the three major terrestrial broadcasters, predicting a landslide victory for Lee Jaemyung, the Democratic Party candidate.

On June 3, regarding the exit poll results of the 21st presidential election, Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijeong stated, "I am grateful to the citizens of Gwangju for stopping martial law, raising their support light sticks for the impeachment, and perfecting democracy through voting."

Mayor Kang emphasized, "I am extremely proud of the citizens of Gwangju, who recorded the highest voter turnout in the nation in this presidential election," and added, "With this level of voter turnout, I will devote myself to ensuring the development of our region."

He continued, "There were people who made the effort to vote despite physical discomfort in the hospital, overseas Koreans who participated in voting from faraway countries, delivery and logistics workers who made time to vote, and those who voted for the first time in their lives. I am grateful to everyone who participated in voting under difficult circumstances, often with great concern. I am truly proud of all our citizens," he reiterated his gratitude.

He said, "Above all, Gwangju is currently pouring all its efforts into the second phase of the AI project. The new government must support the AI Phase 2 project," and added, "Building a super-scale AI computing center is also a pressing task. If AI-related projects are implemented, more companies will be attracted, and a robust talent pool and ecosystem will be established, making Gwangju a true AI-centered city."

Mayor Kang also said, "Over the past three years under the Yoon Sukyeol administration, Gwangju's development has faced many difficulties. Regional neglect has made balanced regional development challenging," and continued, "With the new government, Gwangju must truly take off. There are many pressing issues, such as AI, future mobility, and the relocation of the military airport. Now, it is important that these pledges are included as national policy tasks. I will work to ensure that these are properly reflected as national policy tasks from the very beginning of the new administration."
