Honam University Confucius Academy Successfully Concludes Chinese Speaking Contest

Honam University announced on the 3rd that the Confucius Academy and the Confucius Institute at Jeonbuk Gochangbuk High School jointly hosted the "8th National Jeollado Millennium Chinese Speaking Contest."

The contest, held on May 31 at the International Hall of Jeonbuk Gochangbuk High School, was divided into elementary and middle/high school divisions. Participants demonstrated their speaking abilities on topics such as Chinese history, culture, language, fashion, experiences learning Chinese, experiences in China, and life goals.

This event, organized to discover global talents who will lead future society in celebration of the millennium of Jeollado's foundation, was supported by the Jeonbuk Office of Education, Gochang County in Jeonbuk, Gochang Office of Education, and the Consulate General of China in Gwangju. Attendees included Zhou Zhihua, Deputy Consul General of China in Gwangju, and Wu Bin, Director of the Confucius Academy at Honam University.

After intense competition, Lee Luri (Cheongju Solbat Elementary School) in the elementary division and Kim Mikyung (Gochangbuk High School) in the middle/high school division won the grand prize, receiving the Jeonbuk Superintendent of Education Award and a scholarship of 300,000 won. Oh Seungyeon (Gunsan Wolmyeong Elementary School) and Kang Jiyeon (Jeongeup Hansol Elementary School) in the elementary division, and Lee Gayoung (Gunsan Jeil Middle School) in the middle/high school division, won the gold prize, receiving the Consulate General of China in Gwangju Award and a scholarship of 200,000 won.

Additionally, Kim Seyoon (Gunsan Pureunsol Elementary School) in the elementary division and Yoo Siha (Iksan Iri Girls’ High School) in the middle/high school division received the silver prize, earning the Gochang Superintendent of Education Award and a scholarship of 100,000 won. Kim Yeoha (Gwangju Jangsan Elementary School) and Yoo Yerang (Gochangbuk High School) received the bronze prize, earning the Confucius Academy Director’s Award at Honam University and a scholarship of 50,000 won, respectively.
