Facing Teammate Kim Gaeun in the Round of 16
Badminton world No. 1 An Seyoung (Samsung Life Insurance) has easily advanced to the round of 16 at the Indonesia Open.
On June 3 (local time) in Jakarta, Indonesia, An Seyoung defeated Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand (ranked 12th) 2-0 (21-14, 21-11) in the women's singles round of 32 at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Super 1000 Indonesia Open.
An Seyoung, who is aiming to reclaim the Indonesia Open title for the first time in four years since 2021, will face her Samsung Life Insurance teammate Kim Gaeun (ranked 25th) in the round of 16. Kim Gaeun advanced to the round of 16 by defeating Anupama Upadhyaya of India (ranked 44th) 2-0 (21-15, 21-9) in the round of 32.
Through this tournament, An Seyoung seeks to regain her momentum in international competitions, which was interrupted at the recent Singapore Open. After winning the Malaysia Open, India Open, Orleans Masters, and All England Open in succession this year, she also won all five of her individual matches 2-0 at the Sudirman Cup (World Mixed Team Championships).
However, on May 30, she suffered her first defeat of the season, losing 0-2 (13-21, 16-21) to her longtime rival Chen Yufei of China in the quarterfinals of the BWF World Tour Super 750 Singapore Open.
