Kim Yongtae: "If voter turnout is high, Kim Moonsoo can win"
Emphasizes the need to prevent Lee Jaemyung's election and highlights potential legal risks
Kim Yongtae, chairman of the People Power Party's Emergency Response Committee, on June 3 encouraged supporters to participate in the main vote, stating, "If citizens elect and establish a Kim Moonsoo administration in the main vote, wouldn't the opposition candidate naturally be effectively retiring from politics?"
Appearing on the People Power Party's YouTube channel for the live broadcast "Let's Go Vote Together!" that day, Chairman Kim added, "If that happens, the entrenched camp logic and hostile partisanship that existed in the 22nd National Assembly will all be broken down."
He further stated, "This presidential election is a contest between a self-reflecting conservative and an arrogant progressive." Chairman Kim promised, "Our party wants to promote and be praised by citizens for what we have done well," and added, "We will acknowledge our mistakes and work to correct them."
The People Power Party expects that if the nationwide voter turnout exceeds 80%, including in Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province (TK), the heartland of conservatives, it could stage a dramatic reversal. In the early voting for the 21st presidential election held on May 29-30, Daegu recorded the lowest turnout in the country at 25.63%. As of 3 p.m. on this day, the nationwide turnout stood at 68.7%, with Daegu at 67.1% and North Gyeongsang Province at 68.4%, both lower than the national average.

On Facebook that day, Chairman Kim also appealed for votes, emphasizing the need to prevent Lee Jaemyung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, from being elected. Chairman Kim argued, "On the 18th, which is fifteen days from now, Lee's retrial will take place. Even if Lee is elected, if the trial proceeds as scheduled and he receives a fine of 1 million won or more following the Supreme Court's conviction and remand, an unprecedented situation in constitutional history could arise where another presidential election must be held within two months."
He continued, "To prevent this, the Democratic Party will immediately push for a criminal law amendment that would suspend trials upon presidential election, and an amendment to the Public Official Election Act that would delete the provision punishing the dissemination of false information for the purpose of election. I ask the Democratic Party: Are these two 'Lee Jaemyung Bulletproof Laws' official party policy? If so, do you believe these amendments are in line with the spirit of the Constitution and common sense of the people?"
He also stressed, "The People Power Party will continue to reform without interruption to become a party that meets the expectations of the people," and added, "Candidate Kim will walk the path of true democracy together with the people through sincere politics."
