Actor Jonathan Joce, known for his voice work in the American animated series "King of the Hill," died at the age of 59 after being shot near his home.
According to foreign media outlets such as the Associated Press on June 2 (local time), police responded to a report of a shooting near a house in southern San Antonio, Texas, around 7 p.m. the previous day. At the scene, they found Joce collapsed.
Police attempted emergency measures, but Joce was already deceased when paramedics arrived.
Joce's husband, Tristan Ken de Gonzales, stated, "Joce was killed by someone who could not tolerate homosexuality," and explained that both he and Joce had been harassed in the community because they were gay. He added that the perpetrator shouted homophobic slurs before opening fire at the time of the incident.
Police arrested a 56-year-old male suspect on murder charges following the shooting. However, it has been reported that no evidence has been found linking the incident to homophobia.
Joce gained popularity for voicing the Native American character John Redcorn in the hit animated series "King of the Hill," which aired for 13 seasons over more than a decade starting in 1997. A reboot of the series is scheduled to air in August.
